![]() The 4 (with super script 2) tells us the weight of the barrels before they were struck. The letter D refers to the barrels being made with Damascus steel. ![]() After 1874, Grade 2 guns were Parker’s lowest price guns with Damascus steel barrels.Īt the start of Parker Brothers history, grades are not stamped on the barrel flats nor on the water table. These names were based on various gauge and stock configurations. The GH and EH describes Grade 2 hammerless Parkers, the other names describe Grade 2 hammer guns. As Parker introduced the named grades they named Grade 2 guns E, F, G, H, EH and GH. The Grade 2 production started about 1875, before the grading system was adopted and it sold for $80 (a 80 Dollar grade). That grade is the same as reported for that serial number in the Parker Gun serialization book, by Price & Fjestad. The number 2 stamped on the frame (above the serial number) tells us it is made to be a # 2 grade gun. Post the same pictures (plus as many more pics as you can possibly manage) over at There are surviving factory records for both serial numbers.
